About Us.

Ahava Gleaners is a supplemental food program bringing neighbors together to help meet the needs of their households. We serve low-income families and individuals, including children, older adults, and people with disabilities, throughout Oregon’s Tualatin Valley, the greater tri-county area, and beyond.

Our organization began in 2005 with a mission to help families access nutritious food each week and build food security on a limited budget.

A limited budget should not mean limited access to fresh, nutritious food.
We work to close that gap by providing fresh fruits, vegetables, and other foods that help families stretch their grocery dollars and prepare meals they enjoy.

Our goal is to help break the cycle of limited food choices by making nourishing foods a regular part of family life.

Food with Dignity

We believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and compassion. Members have opportunities to take part in their own food support through volunteering, sharing skills, and helping one another, with accommodations for those whose disabilities or circumstances limit participation.

Each week offers more than food—it offers connection, encouragement, and opportunities to build skills that support greater stability and independence.

MORE THAN A FOOD PANTRY

Our programs and opportunities include:

  • Weekly supplemental food for low-income households

  • Gleaning and food recovery from farms and community sources

  • Advocacy and information to support independence

  • Holiday food and gift programs that ease pressure on household budgets

  • Volunteer opportunities that build skills and work experience

  • Work recommendation letters after completing volunteer requirements

  • Civil rights and nondiscrimination video training

  • Food safety training

  • A caring local community where neighbors support one another

"Thank you Ahava Gleaners for all of this wonderful produce! I've been having salads every day!"

— Ahava Gleaners member, March 2025

"Gleaners is one of many blessings in my life to be thankful for. I came home from volunteering today to find that my mom had made enchilada casserole from some of our wonderful gleaners food. So thank you to everyone who makes this resource possible.

— Ahava Gleaners member,2020

Baskets of Joy

Baskets of Joy applications open November 21, 2026.
Please return here on Nov. 21st for the application link.

Since 2005, Baskets of Joy has brought neighbors, volunteers, and local businesses together to help families celebrate Christmas with dignity, choice, and joy.

Through Ahava Gleaners, families receive holiday food, and parents choose gifts for their children, from babies through age 17. Choosing gifts honors each child’s interests and needs—and lets parents select something meaningful for the children they know and love best.

Our 2026 goal is to support up to 500 local families. Community donations make this possible, and gifts for teens are especially welcome.

Together, we can offer families breathing room during the holidays and bring kindness to life through love in action.

WISHES CAN COME TRUE

HELP BUILD FOOD SECURITY,  ONE HOUSEHOLD AT A TIME

Ahava Gleaners believes that food security is about more than meeting an immediate need. We work to help families access nutritious food while also encouraging skills, resources, and community connections that can strengthen households for the future.
Our work includes rescued and donated food, gleaning and harvesting, gardening, food preservation education, household essentials, and seasonal programs for families.

CURRENT COMMUNITY NEEDS

• Fresh, frozen, shelf-stable and other donated foods
• Canning and food-preservation equipment
• Food dehydrators and a freeze dryer
• Harvesting equipment, including picker poles, buckets, ladders, tarps, scales and gloves
• Gardening supplies and plant starts
• Household and personal-care supplies
• Toys and gifts for Baskets of Joy, especially gifts appropriate for teens

Businesses, farms, community organizations and individuals interested in partnering with Ahava Gleaners are invited to contact us.
